Santa Fe Restaurant Week and Albuquerque Restaurant Week last February and March were a resounding success among the participating restaurant owners and chefs who spoke with me about it, and they — and the event's organizers — are hoping for a repeat, despite the sour economy and regional jobless rate. In fact, they're counting on those factors to help attract new attendees with "specially created, multi-course dinners at top restaurants at amazingly low prices."

This year, organizers have expanded their scope: From Feb. 20 to 27, Las Cruces will play host to its own restaurant week, and from Feb. 27 to March 6, Taos' Restaurant Week will be under way. Santa Fe Restaurant Week, which includes about 50 participating restaurants this year, runs from March 6 to 13, Albuquerque Restaurant Week from March 13 to 20.

Each restaurant week also includes special culinary events, like Santa Fe's The ABC's of Sake class at Shohko Café by certified sake specialist Ayame Fukuda.
